Projects & initiatives

From international volunteering to the beaches of Aveiro.

Each project responds to a concrete need, identified together with communities, partner institutions and local authorities. Here's what we do, where, and with whom.

International mission

Cape Verde - Santiago Island

Our international volunteering mission takes place on Santiago Island, Cape Verde, within a local community, with fieldwork in education and social action.

It is carried out in partnership with local organisations and with the Ministries of the Environment and Education, including school visits, knowledge-sharing with students and teachers, community work promoting social action, and organising activities with the local population.

Each volunteer's participation is supported by fundraising campaigns - the contribution of those who cannot travel is just as essential to keep the mission going.

Coastal Clean-up

We run two clean-up actions a year - one in April, one in September - at Praia de São Jacinto, Aveiro, as part of International Coastal Clean-up Day, an initiative we have supported since 2020.

We count on the support of the São Jacinto Parish Council and Aveiro City Council, who provide the equipment needed for the actions on the ground.

Dune Conservation

Beyond the Coastal Clean-up, we have taken part in dune conservation actions and the removal of invasive species (acacias), accompanied by nature wardens and with the participation of corporate volunteers.

This type of action protects the dune system and coastal ecosystems, reinforcing our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 13 - Climate Action.

We've also been part of

Humanitarian action, when urgency called for it.

Beyond our regular projects, World Needs has mobilised volunteers and resources in response to specific situations, such as supporting a Refugee Reception Centre in Przemyśl, Poland, near the border with Ukraine, and the Wise Business award, dedicated to the circular economy among secondary school students.
